If you didn’t know her a year ago, she captured your heart this winter when she dazzled in the bright lights on the world’s biggest stage in Sochi, Russia, becoming the youngest athlete in history to win an Olympic Slalom gold medal. Before Russia, she was a Slalom World Champion, a two-time Slalom World Cup Champion and winner of nine career World Cup Slalom events. An impressive career, right? Right. What’s even more impressive is that she accomplished all of these feats as a teenager. At the age of 19, Mikaela Shiffrin is a shining star in the sport of alpine skiing and as a representative of the United States Olympic Team; and should be for a long time to come.
